Esophageal Body Performance
Effective esophageal contractions are required for adequate bolus transport through the esophagus.
Esophageal contraction waves are effective:
- if they exhibit amplitudes > 25 mm Hg
- in the presence of propagated peristalsis.
Esophageal contractions are ineffective:
- with amplitudes < 25 mm Hg
- with simultaneous, incomplete or failed peristalsis
